Do you have a “life” Bible verse? A Bible verse you use as a theme for your life? A Bible verse that speaks to your heart? A Bible verse that encourages you, strengthens you, and guides you? A Bible verse that reminds you who you are…a child of The Almighty King?
The theme I use for my life is not a Bible verse rather it is a prayer suggestion from a youth daily devotion many, many years ago: Make today a day in which you try to be all that Christ saved you for and wants you to be. I do not always accomplish this; some days, weeks, even months have gone by where I lost my focus and felt myself mired in the busy-ness of life. But I have never forgotten this “prayer prompt” from my early teens and have always come back to it as I sought to get my life back in line with the Lord’s will.
For another example, the Bible verse I use as the theme for this blog is 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing. (AMP) I have a passion and desire to serve the Lord by lifting others up and encouraging them and when the Lord gave me this verse it fit perfectly with that goal. This is an action I strive to live out (encouraging and comforting others) but I admit it is harder at some times than it is at others. Fortunately, the Lord speaks to me through prayer, Bible Study and other circumstances and guides me back on track!
Having said all this, I wanted to share that today is my birthday! During my “Mary” time this morning, I determined that I would choose a “birthday verse” to be my theme for this year. If it works out, I have decided to choose a theme verse every year for my birthday that I will focus on throughout the following year. (Of course, having a “theme” verse doesn’t mean I will not continue to study and memorize and pray over other scripture. The “theme” verse will just help guide my prayer time and attitude as I go throughout the year.)
My theme verse for the coming year is: 1 Corinthians 10:31 31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (NIV)
This means whatever I write, I want it to glorify God. Whatever I say, I want it to glorify God. Whatever I think, read, watch or listen to, I want it to glorify God. I will also watch what I eat and drink and focus on taking care of His temple which is within me.
As you can see, I have a busy year ahead. I hope you will join me for the journey!
Thanks for reading. Any feedback is appreciated.
